Oilfield experience

Started working on a little rig built on the back of a truck there in Anderson County in 1951. In the spring of 1955, my younger brother and I went to Odessa, Texas to work on the "BIG" rigs. When the Drillship was laid up, I first went to Indonesia on a Reading and Bates rig. I then re-joined the Drillship in Israel. (it was then named Sonda I - maybe Star I). We worked Israel, Greece, Italy and Ecuador. We were drilling off the coast of Sardinia in 1974 when Fred Olsen contacted me to come back to Norway when they were building the Borgny and Biddeford semis. Then, Sverre Loftus took me away from Fred Olsen to work for Aker Drilling services to manage the Dyvi Alpha. I was in Scotland on this job for about a year, then Loftus called me back to Norway to manage another rig. It was turned into a crane barge, so he didn't need me anymore. I then took whatever jobs were available - got the Borgny ready to sell to the Chinese and took 11 men to China to help them get started {we were there about a month}. Went to Gabon for Dyvi for about 6 months to manage one of their jack-ups. Did consulting work as a drilling supervisor for several jobs. Then worked my last 11 years for Phillips Pet. Co. Norway as senior drilling supervisor.
