The 21. of August 1969 Phillips startet drilling at block 2/4 using the Ocean Viking. The bit soon
penetrated a shallow gas pocket. Oil and gas gushed up with the mud.To not have a blowout, the well was
completly cemented. The rig was moved one kilometer, and once again the 25. of October, drill bit
penetrated an oil reservoir. Bad weater made the testing dificult. In November, the rig had to be pulled out,
and most of the crew had to be evacuated. But the 7. of December the testing could continue. When leaving the well the day before christmas eve 1969, many realized that an ''elephant'' was found!. |
